The view northwest.
The location is on the southern end of the volcano field that extends eastward from Raton and south of Capulin, the town and Capulin, the beautiful volcano which is a near perfect cinder cone.  The views extend out at least 50 miles, including the Sangre de Christo Mountains to the west and south to Wagon Mound, a stop on the historic Santa Fe Trail.  Just three miles south is the Santa Fe National Historic Trail.  The area is sparsely populated and ideal for hiking, horseback riding, star gazing and just peace and quiet.  It would be a great retreat from the bustle of the city.  The plentiful wildlife includes pronghorn antelope, rabbits, coyotes, hawks, wild turkeys, roadrunners, elk and mule deer.

The spring fed pond.
There is an additional intermittent lake elsewhere on the property.  This pond is also intermittent and is adjacent to the ruins of an old adobe homestead.
The property is accessed by State Highway 193 on the east.  Maxwell is about 30 miles west.  Raton, Springer and Clayton are each about 42 miles away.  Des Moines is about 32 miles away.  There is a phone line on the property and electric lines are just over a mile away.

Lots of room to roam.

Many great home sites.  Good pasture land with an large
intermittent pond and some smaller spring-fed ponds.
The property shares a 1-1/2 mile border with State land.

Ruins of a homestead near the spring.

Lots of great views from this property.

Beautiful wide open spaces.

Every direction you look presents another great view.

State land is just across the fence on the north.
